Broker symbol guide

US500, SPX500, SP500
the S&P 500 under every broker name.

US500, SPX500, SP500, SPTRD, USA500 and US_SP_500 are all the S&P 500. The plain name is usually a cash CFD that tracks the index and follows the ES future out of hours. Futures-priced versions carry a mark such as -F, .F or a dated tail like U6.

Every spelling, grouped

Measured on broker pages, TradingView broker feeds and live MetaTrader servers. MetaTrader matches symbol names exactly, including case, so US500 and US500m are two different symbols on the platform even though they are the same market.

What the underlying market is

Every name above tracks the S&P 500 index (SPX), the broad US large-cap benchmark. Its exchange-traded futures are CME Group's ES (E-mini) and MES (Micro).

Cash or futures?

A cash US500 CFD tracks the cash S&P 500 while the US market is open. The cash index does not print out of hours, so the CFD then moves with the ES future. A futures-priced CFD quotes the futures level all day, and that level is not the same as the cash index.

How the RB Trading Pro Journal handles it

The RB Trading Pro Journal reads US500, SPX500, SP500, [SP500], US500.cash and every other spelling here as the S&P 500. A cash CFD is priced live at the cash S&P 500 level, and outside US exchange hours that level keeps moving with the ES future, as your broker's CFD does. A futures CFD such as US500-F reads the futures price directly.

Trades arrive by hand, by file import, or live from MT4 and MT5 and cTrader, in whatever spelling your broker uses. You never rename a symbol to get a live price or a correct R.

How this page was built: spellings come from brokers' and prop firms' own help pages and notices, from the broker feeds on TradingView, and from a public dataset of 13,740 symbol names read from 241 live MetaTrader 4 and 5 servers (metatraderVPS/metatrader-broker-symbols, CC BY 4.0). A broker is named only where one of those sources shows it. Brokers rename symbols from time to time, so check your own platform's symbol list if a name here does not match.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is US500 the same as SPX500?

Yes. US500, SPX500, SP500, SPTRD, USA500 and US_SP_500 all track the S&P 500 index. The spelling depends on the broker: IC Markets and Pepperstone use US500, FXCM and FOREX.com use SPX500, Vantage and Darwinex use SP500.

Is US500 the S&P 500 index or ES futures?

The plain US500 at most brokers is a cash CFD on the index, which follows the ES future outside US exchange hours. A futures-priced CFD is labelled, for example Pepperstone US500-F or BlackBull US500.F.

What does SPTRD mean?

SPTRD is the name IG's feed on TradingView uses for its S&P 500 market. It is the same index as US500 or SPX500 elsewhere.

What does [SP500] mean on Admirals?

Admirals puts its cash index CFDs in square brackets, such as [SP500], [USA500] and [DAX40]. Its index futures CFDs use an underscore prefix instead.
